About the Artist
Philip Bogdan
Philip Bogdan is an Alexandria, Virginia-based photographer known for his intimate studies of nature and wildlife. His journey began at age eight, when his father — a classically trained photographer — put professional Nikon equipment in his hands, and deepened at twelve, when he encountered the work of Duane Michals. Bogdan was mentored by his father, Kazik Pazovski, and the free-spirited Walt Burton (who shot for Playboy and photographed the Beatles). He taught Art, Art History, Photography, and Photographic History at Gallaudet University (KDES, MSSD) for 28 years. In 2013, complications from open heart surgery stripped away his cognitive and physical ability to photograph, forcing him to relearn his craft from scratch.
